An excellent small hotel, with an outstanding service. It's the ideal place to stay if you really want to know Hanoi. It's right on the outskirts of the Old Town and a block away from Hoan Kiem Lake. You are at walking distance from all major sightseeing points. The only drawback is that our room window is small but this is easy forgettable regarding the impecable cleaness of the rooms and the remarking simpathy of all the staff. Really enjoyed our time there! Will definitely stay there again next time in Hanoi.

This was hands down the best experience either one of us have had at a hotel anywhere! The customer service was brilliant from start to finish- from the door boys to the manager we were extremely impressed. We stayed here for just 3 nights initially but ended up staying for a total of 6 as we enjoyed the experience so much. We spent the first 3 nights in a Superior room, and were upgraded to the Dekuxe on our final night . All of the rooms are clean beautifully presented, had comfortable beds and lovely touches such as the flower petals on the bed hand basin & fresh fruit & bottled water daily . The in room laptop with free internet was great and the TV & DVD players are modern. Breakfast is good and the restaurant staff attentive and friendly. I spent my birthday there and after my partner menioned this they presented me with a lovely birthday cake at breakfast- this was very touching and just an example of the care they take with their customers. The terrace rooftop area has a view of the lake and the river and is a nice place to chill out. Cannot say enough about this place -you would be mad to stay anywhere else in Hanoi!

There is an atm in front of the hotel
The hotel is a disaster. tried to book a trip to halong bay but the bloke couldnt give me any useful information, not one question I asked was given a straight answer. I eventually asked him to book the trip and he said he would. I went to bed and woke up at the right time, the hotel guy said 'money money' to my girlfriend while I was outside, she said I would pay when I came back, he then came out and told me he booked me in for 2 nights in a hotel on Cat Ba, I said no way I asked for the boat, you told me I was booked on the boat. LIES! Then I went to my room to lie down, he called again and said he got a boat! Then I went down with my bags and the driver told me to leave my bags behind! I told him I'm not going without my bags I'm not returning to this hotel. No chance, I was begged to stay the night but checked out, and the hotel told Booked.net I was a no-show, charged my card after I paid in cash! Apart from that, fleas, bed bugs and ants in the bed, ants all over the room, drunken guests shouting and banging on our door, terrible staff attitude etc etc. Disaster of a hotel! Went to Asia Palace the next night!

Internet use for free
Before we arrived, we received an email with suggestions for tours/ trips. That was ok, tehy asked us for an airport pick-up. At our arrival the 'tour selling woman' has been already waiting for us. She wanted to sell us a lot of trips and we decided to book two of them: Halong Bay (2 day, 1 night) and Fansipan/ Sa Pa tour (4 days, 2 nights). The second one was too expensive with its 240$ per person. The hotel in Sa Pa was quite simple, nothing special. Additionally, there were some contents in the program which we didn't get. Such as daily drinking water for free. Therefore, we must not recommend to buy any tour in the Ngoc Mai hotel. Furthermore, we have been asked very often to book other tours - they wanted to sell a lot of them. We have had to change our room two times, every time we've been told that the other room is better for us - little bit strange. We assume that for the first time they noticed giving us a cheaper room. Second time was more strange. The wanted to rent the room with two seperate bed instead of one. But the should plan such things in advance, shouldn't they? Breakfast was simple, unfortunately the don't have any menu cards where you can choose. There are three simple "menues" every day. We stayed for two nights there and it was ok in general. But after our departure we got the information from Booked.net that we will be charged the daily rate because we didn't arrive at the hotel - ? So the staff did not work properly and wanted to take more money....
